May 22, 2008 In the middle of a site update right now. so things aren't as pretty as they should be yet. ______________________________

April 16, 2008 No, I haven't updated this page in a while, mainly because I've been stuck doing other comics stuff. Priorities dictate I do freelance gigs which don't have my name on them that pay the bills in a more timely manner than my regular comics work and/or my personal stuff. Sad, but true. I'm FINALLY back to working on 21st Centurions #3 this month, but, of course, this week I gotta help out again on yet another urgent project crisis. ______________________________

Getting the word out on one's comic is difficult:

A tiny handful of women don't want to acknowlege or accept that there are more female comic creators and mangaka. They don't want to acknowledge that women are out there writing, pencilling, inking and self publishing (and I mean "distributing-through-Diamond-publishing" here) in comics, much less for independent comics publishers because it doesn't fit in with their agenda. If a woman hasn't done anything outside of a few sketches at a con, they'll talk about it extensively and what a sad injustice it is that she doesn't get work from any major publishers. If a woman does a comic, she'll be lucky if they'll talk about her work at all, because she doesn't fit the "pity poor me " profile. If a woman (who has worked for major publishers) self published 32 page color comics that she's written, pencilled, lettered and colored, paid for printing, which were then sold and distributed through Diamond, they won't even acknowledge her. (BTW, I once emailed the (cough)"Friends of Shamu" (cough) back in the mid- 90's when I only had a handful of credits to my name, if I became a member exactly what did I get from them for my monetary contibutions? Was there was anything other than a newletter in the way of support to female creators that was available to people who lived outside of the two meeting sites? I didn't get an answer from FOL.)

Of course, I could be biased because a comics news reporter/reviewer who was recommended by a friend as being "helpful" to indy creators.) admitted she threw my comic in the trash unread, another well known comics reviewer --when I asked her for a mailing address to send free comics to review-- "didn't have the time"(even though she said nice things about my work for one of the bigger publishers) and an editor for a print publication (while she's a very nice person) has never once reviewed my comics or mentioned it in the magazine in even a negative way, though I've given her copies diligently for a couple of years now and asked outright if she might mention it somehow. Any ideas, people? Thanks for reading.

Steph' here. As most of you know, I've been busy on freelance projects with my husband's bosses' comics company during these past few months. (got to pay bills!) The pages-in-progress to issue number three are all around me. I may put up some non- spoiler scans soon.

Work has started on issue #3,for publication sometime in mid-2007.

As most of you are no doubt aware, I'm unhappy with the printing results on issues #1 and 2--both with different printers.

Our local printer for issue zero, (who does most of the AC covers) while very good, cannot print in a standard comic book size format and (on top of that) was cost-prohibitive.

Hopefully, we'll find a stable printing option by the time we get to issue #3,

32 pages in full glossy color. Written, pencilled and colored by Stephanie Sanderson Heike and inked by Mark G. Heike. Publisher and EIC--Stephanie Sanderson Heike
